Gym recital 2012

Kyra and Myles are in the same gymnastics class with a bunch of other girls and guys their age.  This year they did a great job at their recital with lights on the big stage.
Their class showed off their bridges, cartwheels, round offs, dive rolls, and different jumps.  Kyra had a special part where she ran across the stage then did a round off into a tuck jump and the rest of the class cheered:).  Each gymnast got a turn on stage by themselves, showing oft their tricks.  Kyra and Myles both whipped out great one handed cartwheels!
We are so grateful for a Christian gym where the kids have great teachers, learn a lot, and have tons of fun!

Sophyisms

Sophy is quickly becoming a little ham!  She has no shortage of knock-knock jokes with no punch line, lots of silly faces and voices, and knows how to make our family laugh!
When asked, "Is your name Sophy?"  She responds, "No-Sophynator!"
When asked at the pool,  "Are you a fish?"  She always says, "No, I a dolphin!"
When she asks for a snack-sandwich, banana, milk, whatever-she always says, "Only big ones!  Only big ones!"
When it's time to bush her teeth or hair, she runs away laughing and yelling, "Nunca, nunca, nunca!"  ( in Spanish:  never, never, never!)
When it's popsicle time she says, "Only twaclit, only twaclit."
(translated only chocolate-a girl after my own heart:))

Our next reader

There are lots of things I enjoy about homeschooling, but I have discovered that one of my favorites is teaching my children how to read!  Like I assume most people do, we start with letters and sounds and easy Bob books and progress to more and challenging words, books, etc.  I love seeing "the light bulb" go on as they put sounds together into words and then words into sentences.  I love the excitement they have when they've just read a "real" book.  Lately Myles has really taken off in his reading and I'm so proud of this little dude!  I think he gets better everyday at reading more fluently and sounding out hard words.  It's so fun for me to see all his hard work pay off.  Now I even find him in bed in the dark(when he's supposed to be going to sleep) with his flashlight on, sneaking a peek at the next chapter!  Here he is working on an Imagination Station book...Myles will be a first grader next year and we're excited to explore even more new books!

Kyra turns 8!

This year was Kyra's golden birthday!!  She turned 8 on the 8th and wanted a golden theme!  We had some friends over to celebrate with games, lunch, cupcakes, and fun!  We played a memory type game with gold chocolate coins for prizes and had a golden scavenger hunt.  Each pair of kids had clues to find gold sunglasses, a gold trophy, a gold necklace, a golden grape, a gold flower, golden candy, and a gold nugget(guess who spray painted a bunch of rocks at 5:30 that morning :)).  We all had a great time celebrating 8 years of Kyra!
The golden girls!
Kyra requested cherry limeade cupcakes...oh so delicious!

Someone once told me that as a mom the days are long, but the years go fast!  I totally get that now!  Can't believe we have an 8 year old!  Kyra, we love you and are so blessed to watch God work in your life each day.  We love you!!
