Hoops
Today was a first for our family...our first basketball game! Myles has been dying to play basketball and is already having lots of fun. He is on a YMCA team of 1st graders and they did great! Myles still has lots to learn about the game, but he's a good dribbler and shooter.
His team is called the Wildcats
Though we are busy with sports and activities, school and church- I LOVE this season in the kids lives! It's so fun to go and watch them learn new skills and interact with their team. No place I'd rather be on Saturday mornings!
Honey Bee
For the 2nd year in a row Kyra was a part of the Tucson Homeschool Spelling Bee. For kids in 1-4th grade, they call it the "Honey Bee." They started with 35 kids and Kyra made it several rounds to the last 5 spellers! She did a great job even though she wasn't feeling that great and we found out later that she had an ear infection and popped ear drum:/.
Each of the kids got a certificate, Bookmans money, and a honey bee on their cheek:).
The word she missed was "assumption". Way to go Kyra!

The Little Man turns 7!
Myles turned 7 last week and requested a "monkey" party. I think this stemmed from the fact that he eats about 3 bananas a day and we often call him "our little monkey." He also has 2 favorite stuffed animals that are both monkeys. Soooo, I set off to find out what in the world you do or have at a monkey party!:)
We made 3 of these cuties, and I gotta say that this is one of my better attempts at birthday cakes!
Myles decorated the door himself with drawings of monkeys and a sign that said, "Myles is turning 7! Let's go bananas!"
Party hats for a game of memory and for wearing and LOTS of bananas for the BANANA DERBY!
Practicing his best monkey faces...
The kids created banana cars and then we raced them in a very* official Banana Derby. Here are some of the boys...what a handsome bunch!
Myles' buddies all have sisters, so we actually had more girls than boys at the party!
Cousin Lauren with her awesome banana car...
Let the races begin!!!
We feel very blessed to be surrounded with awesome family and friends!!
The BOY table!
Hayley and cousins!
We have been watching a lot of StarWars lately, which Myles has loved! After the party(and every night since) Myles and Daddy battle it out with these great light sabers, complete with sound effects!
And here he is...7 years old! We love you Myles and we're so proud of the young man God is growing you to be!

Note to self...
Last week ended and this week started with car issues and sick kids, extra driving, lots of laundry and disinfecting. Meanwhile we got behind in history, didn't do any science...normally this would make my first-born check all the boxes personality cringe. I don't like being off schedule. But this morning my heart was full to the brim with thankfulness to God as all 5 of us had a conversation about the "real" gospel...about how our souls are cast down and Jesus, our Good Shepherd, restores us. While disciplining our 8 year old for being disrespectful, we were both brought to tears, remembering that we both struggle with sin, but Jesus paid for those sins and He never runs out of forgiveness. Oh yeah...this is why I love teaching and being with our kids all day long. I want these opportunities. Thank you Jesus for reminding me.
It's Gonna be an Odd Year
For 8 months, when people ask how old our children are, we've said...2, 4, 6, 8! This little lady starts off a long run of birthdays and at the beginning of May we will be able to say...3, 5, 7, 9!

On New Year's Eve our Hayley turned 5! Oh what a blessing she is! She is witty, cheerful, smart, a hard worker and asks us deep spiritual questions which are hard to answer! Because her birthday is soo close to Christmas, we had an early party this year in mid-December with some friends. Then on New Year's Eve we celebrated with cousins, aunt, uncle, and Mema! The first thing she asked for as a birthday present was a Math book...yes mam!
